My profile

Biography

I’m an Experiential Learning Tutor in Rise, Manchester Met’s award-winning space for experiential learning in the extended curriculum. Along with designing, delivering and curating innovative learning experiences, we also administer the accreditation framework that enables students to enhance their degree outcomes through Rise. My role in Rise supports and curates Rise activities within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

I am responsible for the design and delivery of Rise activities themed around sustainability that empower students to become active global citizens and agents of change for a more sustainable future. I provide a hands-on experiential approach to education for sustainable development that encourages all students to be climate-aware and understand what role their discipline can play in acting on the climate crisis.

I also facilitate project-based learning through Rise and lead development on our project resource framework. These resources support and structure project-based learning opportunities for students to undertake project work across a wide range of subjects and topics. A key factor in constructing meaningful project experiences is the network of community groups, researchers, and social enterprises that we have built at Rise.

I am in the final stages of completing my PhD in earth and climate science and I am passionate about incorporating experiential learning into education for sustainable development to facilitate a greater depth of understanding of the interactions between human activities and the earth and climate systems.
