About LTA

LTA is the core module of the PGCert LTHE. This module allows learners the opportunity to develop their practice through critical reflection and contextual debates informed by relevant theories and perspectives. Through the Module, participants will consider their teaching practice in the context of the wider Higher Education (HE) landscape, from both the teacher and learner perspective, and with a focus on inclusive and effective practice.

  • Topics and delivery

    Topics and delivery

Core Module Topics include: Curriculum and Session Design; You and Your Learners; Inclusive Teaching Practice & Assessment and Feedback for Learning.

During the module, participants will consider and develop their teaching in several ways, including:

    • Exploring a range of teaching perspectives and theories (inc. learning, pedagogic, curriculum design, discipline-based, and/or profession-specific theory).

    • Engaging in critical discussions and collaboration with other participants on the programme and their workplace supporter.

    • Being observed teaching and observing others teach. (Participants external to Man Met will ordinarily be observed online for their UTA tutor observation.)

    • Reflecting on and critically evaluating their teaching practice.

    • Planning, delivering, and evaluating learning activities.

    • Applying the Professional Standards Framework (PSF) to their practice.

Through the module your learning will comprise of the following approaches:

    • Attendance and engagement with teaching sessions.

    • Self-paced learning activities and resources on Moodle for each topic.

    • Reading – including learning, pedagogic, curriculum design, discipline-based, and/or profession-specific. The reading list is split into ‘essential’ and ‘further’ reading items.

    • 12 formative activities aligned to the PSF and undertaken in your own context, which support your learning and build towards the summative Practice Journal assessment.

    • Collaborative, small-group peer-learning and peer-feedback in a defined ‘learning set’.

    • Contribution to discussions via the LTA Teams Space.

    • Keeping reflective notes as you progress through the module.
