faqs for current students

  • How do I apply for accommodation?

You can apply via the accommodation portal using the following details:

    • Enter your 8 digit MMU ID number as your username
    • Enter your password (same as your Moodle or MyMMU account)

    From the accommodation menu:

    1. Select ‘Register’ (Stage 1)
    2. Choose ‘Register here for accommodation September 2021/22’
    3. Read the information on each page and once you have completed each section, scroll to the bottom of each page and click on ‘Next Step’
    4. When promoted, select ‘Finish’ – this will generate your Stage 1 confirmation email

As soon as you have completed Stage 1, you will have access to Stage 2 (‘Apply’) from the Home menu, where you can book a room from those still available on our system.

You can find out more information on our How to apply webpage

  • Why am I unable to access stage 2?

If choosing Manchester Met accommodation, you will need to agree the license agreement (contract) and pay your pre-payment .

Ensure you scroll to the bottom of each page and click on ‘Next Step’ and ‘Finish’ when prompted to do so, as this will generate your Stage 2 confirmation email, which gives details of when you can complete Stage 3.

If you choose partner accommodation, the private provider will send you a booking link and advise you on the rest of the application process. Your contract and all payments will then be directly with the private provider, and not completed via our Accommodation Portal.

The nominated partner providers require applicants to provide details of a suitable guarantor, if they are wishing to pay the accommodation fees in instalments. If a guarantor can’t be provided, payment of the fees will be due upfront in full.

If you declare a disability or medical condition at Stage 1 (Register) you won’t be able to access Stage 2 immediately, because we need to assess the application and consult you to see if you need any special requirements. We will contact you once your application has been assessed.’

  • Can I book a flat with my friends?

Potentially, yes. We are unable to reserve entire flats, but if you and your friend(s) have registered your interest (Stage 1) it’s likely you’ll be able to pick a flat together, subject to availability.

You just need to co-ordinate your room selections. All applicants must have registered their interest (completed stage 1) and must have access to Stage 2:

    1. One applicant will need to select a vacant room within a flat.
    2. Once this booking is in process the other rooms within that flat will be locked and be unavailable to select until the booking is made after the five minute countdown page – e.g. if an applicant is selecting room A in a 4 bedroomed flat, then rooms B,C & D will be temporary locked until room A has been booked.
    3. When room A is booked, the next applicant can then quickly access the system, head straight to the flat, and continue to book room B, C or D.
    4. The 3rd and 4th applicant can continue this process to fully occupy the flat.
  • Why can I only book a limited range of properties?

We can only offer a limited range of properties to current students due to our need to prioritise accommodation for new UG students arriving in Manchester for the first time. Bookings for current students opened in March so some options may also now be fully booked.

Should the options we have not be suitable for you, the university can also recommend private sector accommodation for returning students. For more information about private sector accommodation, we recommend our partner housing service Manchester Student Homes (MSH).

MSH are co-owned by MMU and are considered a ‘department of the University’. They work with accredited landlords, letting agencies and also approximately 30 private halls of residence, which are accredited by them. These private halls are very similar to our own and many are located on, or close to the Manchester campus. They offer a very similar experience to living in our University accommodation – the main difference being that your contract would be with the private provider and not the University.

You can contact MSH directly at manchesterstudenthomes@manchester.ac.uk.
