Charly

Having studied our MSc Zoo Conservation Biology course, Charly is now the Education and Conservation Manager at Wildwood Trust. In her role she maintains, develops and delivers the conservation programme down in Devon, as well as organising the Trust’s education initiative. Day-to-day, she carries out in-situ and ex-situ conservation such as on site habitat management and breeding projects for release.

“The highlight of my course was the opportunity to work with Chester Zoo in their Behaviour and Welfare team during the zoo placement module, providing me with valuable skills and work experience.”

For her research project, Charly worked on characterising the effects of bat flight behaviour. As a direct result, she is now a published author on a research paper on the subject.

“This project sparked my interest in bat conservation and opened career doors for me. I am the secretary for two local wildlife groups; Devon Bat Conservation and Research Group, and Devon Mammal Group which has provided additional hands-on opportunities to get involved in research and in situ conservation.”
