I was approached by Dunelm to apply for the Retail Leadership Degree Apprenticeship at Manchester Metropolitan University. I thought this would be a great opportunity to expand my knowledge and have a new experience.

While it has been challenging, I am enjoying it all – even having to adapt to the virtual way of learning. I like connecting with new people and learning about retail in a way I wouldn’t have without the programme. I’m then able to bring all I’ve learned back into the store environment.

I have found managing my time to be a bit of a challenge, though it’s all worthwhile when I see my work and study linking together. As the Store Manager, I have full control over my hours so it’s sometimes harder to tell myself to take the time I need.

I am confident that the Retail Leadership Degree Apprenticeship programme will help me to progress. I have been with Dunelm for 11 years. I started as an 8-hour colleague and have recently been promoted from a Deputy to a Store Manager at the Burton store. I’m happy in my current role and I am enjoying learning new things. In the future, I’d love to move into a more people-focused role.

I would recommend a degree apprenticeship to anyone that wants to take their career further.
