We should be talking about this! A workshop exploring girls' experiences of menstruation in secondary schools

What’s on offer?
How does it make you feel to talk about your period? What is it like to attend school while having your period? Has anyone ever openly spoken to you about how you can best manage your period while going to school and taking part in PE?
Let us start the conversation! Join us for a workshop about period experiences, management of period symptoms, and overcoming the challenges that the period can pose when going to school and taking part in PE.

What’s it about?
In a safe and relaxed environment, we will talk about typical period symptoms and ways to cope with them. After a discussion about how you feel on your period, what you do to help with the symptoms, and challenges you have experienced.

In small groups, you will develop a manifesto for your school. For example, this could include tips to help fellow students manage school life and the period successfully, you could offer suggestions for how you think teachers could support you, or you could even outline areas for improvement to be actioned by your school. You can be as creative as you like and really tailor this to what you believe is needed most or most beneficial for your school.

Who’s leading the event?
The event is led by Dr Petra Kolić, a researcher from Manchester Metropolitan University, whose work focuses on understanding girls’ and women’s experiences of the period and the perceived impact it has on daily life.
