Statement on the ongoing events in the USA

Statement from Manchester Metropolitan University and The Union

#BlackoutTuesday

We know that current events in the United States have deeply affected students and staff at Manchester Met.

Our University’s aim is be a safe community, free from racism and discrimination, and one that welcomes everyone and supports them all to reach their full potential.

Racism and discrimination has no place in our society. Together, through the community we develop, through the research we do, through the lives we change, we are determined to make a difference.

We will always stand shoulder to shoulder with people affected by racism and discrimination.

The wellbeing of our staff and students is our priority. Our support services are on hand to provide counselling and wellbeing advice for those of you affected by this situation.

If you experience or observe racism or discrimination, please report it.

Remember, together we can make the change. Don’t be silent. You, your experiences and ideas matter. You can share these through the Students' Union and staff forum.

With best wishes

Professor Malcolm Press, Vice-Chancellor

Anna Welsh, President, The Union
