To mark World Social Work Day, we’ll be shining a light on our Social Worker Degree Apprenticeship programme and sharing case studies from our apprentices and employer partners.

World Social Work Day on the 16th March 2021, is the key day in the year that social workers worldwide stand together to advance their common message globally. This year, the 2021 World Social Day highlights Ubuntu: I am Because We Are.

Our Social Worker Degree Apprenticeship programme develops confident social work professionals by preparing apprentices for the challenging, complex and rewarding world of social work. We work with more than 20 regional and national employer partners, including all of Greater Manchester’s local authorities, and we currently have almost 120 apprentices on the programme. Later this month we will be welcoming our fifth cohort of apprentices from partners including councils and the NHS.

The programme explores the role of social workers within the context of people, society and ethics. With an embedded, collaborative approach to learning, apprentices understand professional best practice and gain a fresh academic perspective, helping to drive social change and improve the lives of service users and carers. Contact us to find out more about supporting participants onto this Degree Apprenticeship.

Pauline Black, Senior Lecturer and the Social Worker Degree Apprenticeship Programme Lead at Manchester Metropolitan University said:

“We’re delighted to be able to celebrate World Social Work Day, by recognising the impact of our Social Worker Degree Apprenticeship programme. Being involved in the apprenticeship has been incredibly rewarding and it is exciting to see our first apprentices approaching the end of the programme. We are exceptionally proud of what they are achieving and have every confidence they will play an important part in supporting Greater Manchester Communities as registered Social Workers.”
