He said: "I am committed to providing all students with an exceptional experience, both in university and placement. I also want us to foster a collaborative approach with the NHS and other nurse education stakeholders as well as enhancing the role students play in the management, evaluation and development of programmes."

A keen advocate of inter-disciplinary working in teaching and research, Mark aims to strengthen cross faculty working - with particular focus on growing inter-disciplinary research and work to establish Manchester Met’s nursing department as a centre of nurse education excellence and innovation nationally and internationally.

Using his extensive editorial experience, he also aims to establish the University as an internationally leading department for nurse education and research.

A further priority is to develop its global presence through his international networks, increasing recruitment of overseas PhD students, establishing an international visiting scholar programme and building new links with nursing schools in China, India and Australia. Shaping student and faculty exchange opportunities and expanding the number of high-profile international nurse academics linked with the department also feature in his plans.

Mark has deep knowledge of creating postgraduate programmes for international students and shares the University’s ambition to use flexible, digital and other blended learning approaches to shape existing and new programmes that will appeal to the widest possible nursing audience.
