Introducing the Designing for inclusion – with and for older adult populations – research network

The aim of this blog space is to provide an overview of and regular updates on our ‘Designing for inclusion – with and for older adult populations’ research work and our first study as a research collective – the development of the ‘Community Buddy Near Me’ (CBNM) project'.

We, the founders of this research network, Dr Li Guo, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and Dr Amanda Taylor-Beswick, School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work, Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), connected through our work on ‘The development and use of wearable devices as a response to Opioid Overdose in High Risk Populations‘ project. As a result of this work we got to thinking about technical solutions to social problems being experienced by older people populations in the UK, an area in which Dr Guo is already having an impact. We were reflecting on older people populations around the world and how, for some, there seemed to be a more collective response to social support within communities. We felt that we had a contribution to make in this area and have begun to reach out to older adult populations and support providers to understand what we can do as an interested and invested research network. Prof Yonghong Peng will oversee this work, due to his expertise and in his role as Head of the Centre for Advanced Computational Science at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).
