On Monday 6 March and Tuesday 7 March, alumni from the business school and Manchester Law School took part in graduate panel events, with a global focus. Graduates returned to campus, or dialled in virtually from around the world, to speak to current students, about their global career journeys.

Twenty alumni took part in the panels, with a variety of global experience to share. This ranged from alumni who had studied abroad for a year as part of their degree, to those living and working internationally, and graduates working at international companies.

As well as graduates returning to the University campus, some for the first time since they studied here, graduates also joined the discussions from across the world, with locations including Malaysia, Hong Kong, Germany, Norway, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and British Virgin Islands.

Some common discussion points from across the panels included how to demonstrate your passion when applying for jobs, the importance of gaining experience through volunteering, placements and internships, how to effectively network and build professional relationships, dealing with resilience and set backs and taking opportunities.

The conversations also had a strong international focus with advice offered on graduate visas, working internationally or at international companies, cultural differences in applying for jobs in different countries and how to utilise your UK degree qualification in other countries.

During the two days, over 160 students attended four department panel events, with 20 graduates volunteering their time as alumni ambassadors to support and inspire current students. The alumni panel events were just some of the 45 events and visits that took place during Go Global week. Students also took part in international visits to America, Switzerland and Amsterdam as well as more local visits to national trust sites and a visit to the international video game museum.
