A vibrant community and strong doctoral identity will be created through the launch of Manchester Metropolitan University's new Doctoral College

Delivering excellent research with impact is one of the key goals of the University's Road to 2030 strategy and the creation of a thriving doctoral community to enhance and grow its research environment, while developing the research leaders of the future, is one of the key drivers of Manchester Met's Research Strategy.

The College has been established to develop and embed a strong doctoral identity based around three pillars: Academic Leadership, Student Development, and Doctoral Services.

As well as raising the profile of doctoral studies and students at Manchester Met, the College promises to embed and deliver training that is discipline specific, interdisciplinary, methodologically focused, skills orientated, and career enhancing.

Professor Nick Brook, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Research at Manchester Met, said: “Doctoral students are central to our research endeavour. The creation of the Doctoral College with academic leadership, will provide a strong doctoral identity at the University.

"The College will focus on increasing our doctoral training offer, supporting the drive for external funding and partnerships to secure our ambition.”

Professor Anya Ahmed, Academic Director of the Doctoral College at Manchester Met, said: “I am thrilled to be launching Manchester Met’s Doctoral College. This is an exciting time for the University and for our doctoral researchers, whose experiences and academic outcomes are central to everything that we do.”

Doctoral Services (formerly the Graduate School) will continue to provide support across a range of non-academic issues and work closely with academic colleagues to implement the Doctoral Student Strategy and the Doctoral College’s aims and objectives.

The launch event for the Doctoral College took place on January 25 at the University's Business School and included presentations from Manchester Met colleagues and guests.

Attendees had the opportunity to find out more about the role of the Doctoral College, engage in discussions and hear from members of the University's doctoral community.
