Manchester Metropolitan is set to deliver two new degree apprenticeships in Place Management and Accounting Finance Management with new funding from the Office for Students (OfS).

The funding will go towards the creation of an Accounting Finance Manager apprenticeship and a Chartered Manager apprenticeship, specialising in Place Management for high streets and retail.

The OfS, which is the regulator and competition authority for the higher education sector in England, has announced a range of programmes and institutions that will receive funding as part of a wider £40 million investment to boost the capacity and equality of opportunity within degree apprenticeship provision in higher education.

Liz Gorb, Director of Apprenticeships at Manchester Metropolitan University, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding from the Office for Students, which will allow us to promote the unique opportunities created by degree apprenticeships to more businesses and professionals across the country helping to provide the skills needed for today’s workforce.”

Degree apprenticeships offer the unique opportunity for students to gain valuable experience while earning a living wage. They are a fast-track ladder for social mobility and have produced employees with valuable skillsets.

Manchester Met is a leading provider of degree apprenticeships and now works with more than 600 employers and over 2,700 apprentices through its programmes across the UK.

Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education, Robert Halfon, said: “Expanding degree apprenticeships is crucial if we are to build a skills and apprenticeships nation that is fit for the future.

“Combining a degree with the opportunity to launch a career in a chosen industry, degree apprenticeships are helping to create a pipeline of talent that will help our economy to grow.”
