Manchester Met wins AdvanceHE Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence
The award celebrates teams who have made an outstanding impact on student learning and the teaching profession
Manchester Met has been awarded the AdvanceHE Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence.
The University has been recognised for Birley Place – a unique teaching and learning tool for students, created by the Faculty of Health and Education.
Birley Place is a virtual community, designed to help Health, Psychology and Social Care students explore simulated neighbourhoods using publicly-available data.
Students can use Birley Place to interact with the local community, visit residents at home and gain an understanding of the socio-economic factors that can impact people, places and scenarios.
This allows them to develop skills and an understanding of communities in a simulated environment, helping to them prepare for a range of careers.
The prestigious and highly competitive national award celebrates teams who have made an outstanding impact on student learning and the teaching profession.
During the rigorous three-stage selection process, Manchester Met was one of just 15 award winners.
The digital learning tool is supported by academics, service users, professional services staff and students. The team was recognised by AdvanceHE for the creation of learning resources with communities, the formation of local, national and international partnerships and the Wordpress website itself, which has national and international impact.
Commenting on the University’s first AdvanceHE Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence win since 2020, Eleanor Hannan, E-Learning Developer, Faculty of Health and Education, said: “Receiving this prestigious accolade is a testament to the hard work of a talented, pioneering team of Manchester Met colleagues, students, and local partners. Together we have created a unique teaching and learning tool that helps us deliver interprofessional simulation-based education across our faculty and the wider community.”
