What are we looking for?

Where?

The North West Film Archive is interested in film and video material featuring the people, places, events and activities of the North West of England – Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Cumbria, Lancashire and Merseyside.

When?

We collect moving images from the very early days of cinema in the late 19th Century, right up to the present day.

What?

We’re interested in any subject which illustrates life and the lives of the people of the North West.  This could be newsreel from the 1920s, home movies from the 1960s, a corporate video from the 1990s, or digital footage of local events in the 2010s.  We’re particularly interested in footage reflecting the cultural diversity of the region, as well as less common subjects such as political activism, home interiors and life in our rural communities.

What happens to my films?

The North West Film Archive has well over 40 years’ experience in looking after moving image material.  From the moment your footage arrives at the Archive, it is stored under archival conditions in secure storage.

Once inspected by our highly experienced and specialist staff, and formally acquired by the Archive, your material will be catalogued and be made available for people to learn from and enjoy.

We don’t ask for copyright to be transferred to us, and can usually offer a digital copy of your material, free of charge.
