This project, PEAs in Pods, aims to build capacity and capability for public engagement with research into information and communication technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI).

It is one of five flagship projects in the UK funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

It aims to empower researchers in Greater Manchester to involve marginalised communities and embed co-production methods into research processes and governance.

A group of 20 data scientists and AI researchers, known as public engagement ambassadors (PEAs), will be trained, particularly in co-production with local communities.

After the training, they will develop a series of community projects, and resources including Data and AI Ethics in a Box.
