Biography

I’m Professor of Computational Fluid Dynamics and Director (Theme Leader) of Centre for Mathematical Modelling and Flow Analysis (CMMFA) at MMU.

Over the last 20 years I have been engaged in research and teaching in computational modelling of water and air flow and its interaction with structures with applications in offshore, ocean and aerospace engineering. 

I have published widely in some of the most reputed journals in the field of computational physics, ocean and coastal engineering e.g., Journal of Computational Physics, Pro Roy Soc A, Inter. J. Num. Methods Eng., Physics of Fluids, Coastal Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Applied Ocean Research, Journal of Hydraulic Engineering and Computers and Fluids on topics ranging from the development of novel numerical algorithms to their application to real engineering flow problems. Besides, I have presented numerous papers at major international conferences of the field e.g. ISOPE, ICCE, OMAE etc. 

My research has mainly been funded by the EPSRC and in the past few years I have been PI or Co-I on eight high profile projects with a total research income of over £2.8M to MMU. My current research activities are primarily focused on the development of an integrated and efficient Numerical Wave Tank (NWT) CFD software for coastal and ocean engineering applications and in particular the development of new offshore renewable energy converters (wind and waves).
