About our community

When you study with the History Research Centre, you’ll become part of a thriving postgraduate community investigating more than 4,000 years of history, including public history and heritage.

You’ll be invited to events and activities designed to build your research skills and grow your professional network.

And you’ll be able to submit articles for Hive, our postgraduate journal for the Faculty of Arts and Humanities - giving you practical experience of the peer review and academic publishing process as well as space to test out new materials.

Our research seminar series will give you an encouraging forum to present your research. You could also join postgraduate colleagues to organise your own events, such as the The Long Nineteenth Century Symposium.

To help you get ready for your professional research career, we offer workshops covering important skills such  as writing research grants, working with external partners, and engaging with the media.

The department is welcoming and supportive, and provides regular opportunities to be part of a community. My supervisor is generous with her time, helping me to improve my research, and cares about my personal wellbeing.
