Biography

Alessio is an expert in the field of sport for development and peace. His particular interests lie on cross-cultural interactions, technological innovation, and social ecology, all in relation to the transformational potential of sport. He teaches in the area of Sport Management and Sport Sociology.

Alessio holds a PhD from Loughborough University. His doctoral thesis has looked at how football helps refugee positively resettle in Europe. Since then he has worked on different projects, such as promoting retention in sport for marginalized communities, and looking at how sport can help reduce crime. He is currently exploring the careers of footballers with a forced migration. While doing his PhD, he has served as the managing editor for the Journal of Sport for Development, and as a Co-Lead for the Loughborough UNESCO Student Network.

Before entering in the academic space, Alessio has worked in the e-commerce sector in both China and Northern Italy. Other than English, he speaks Italian and Mandarin.
