Biography

Dr Costas Theodoridis is a Senior Lecturer in International Retail Marketing in the Department of Marketing, International Business and Tourism at Manchester Metropolitan University Business School (MMUBS). He is the joint Interim Head and the  Deputy Head of the Department. He has a first degree in Marketing from the Technological Educational Institution of Thessaloniki, a PgDip in Business and Management and an MBA (Marketing) from Nottingham Trent University, a MRes and a PhD in Retail Strategy (externally funded by the Greek State Scholarship Foundation) from Manchester Metropolitan University. He is an associate fellow of the Higher Education Academy and the Institute of Place Management and an Affiliate Member of the Chartered Management Institute. He is an external examiner for University of Plymouth and University of Central Lancashire. He has acted as an external adviser for a number of HE institutions in the UK and overseas. He is a visiting professor at the Helsinki School of Business and has held similar roles for other institutions overseas. He has supervised PhDs and has acted as a KTP advisor and supervisor.

I am also supervising UG, PG and PhD students and act as academic supervisor for Placement Students.

External examiner roles

I am an external examiner for the Universities of Plymouth and Central Lancashire. In the past, I held similar roles for the University of Derby, Cumbria, Harper Adams, University of Wales, Staffordshire University, Middlesex University and I have also held advising roles for the University of East London and Leeds Beckett University.

Projects

I have worked in a number of national and international marketing projects. Currently, I was involved as a KTP supervisor with a project that looked into the use of the big data consumer durables retail SMEs.

Teaching

Unit Leader for the L7 “International Marketing” and L6 “Strategy, Digital and Leadership in Retail” and “Contemporary Retail Strategy”.

Supervision

I have completed the doctoral supervision of researchers in the areas of retail, SMEs, and place management. I am currently supervising two PhD students who do research in the area of place marketing and management, consumer behaviour, and digital marketing.

Research outputs

My major area of research expertise is the retail strategy and particularly the area of retail location and place. I have also published research on consumer behaviour, research methodology, and decision-making.

Costas is a Fellow of RKE. His research focuses on retail strategy with particular reference to the response of retailers to changing and uncertain environments. He has also published research in the areas of consumer behaviour, SME strategy, competitive intelligence and other marketing related fields.
