Biography

Etienne Develay is a lecturer in Accounting and Finance at Manchester Metropolitan Business School.  

Etienne received a master’s degree program ‘Grande Ecole’ from IESEG School of Management and realised an exchange semester at the Haas Business School at the University of California, Berkeley. He obtained his PhD from the Nottingham Business School, NTU.

Prior to embrace an academic career, Etienne was a financial auditor at Mazars Luxembourg.

Interests and expertise

My research interests lie at the crossroad between corporate governance and corporate social responsibility/ethics/sustainability. I am also passionate by sustainable finance, ESG, socio-environmental accounting and carbon accounting.

Award and distinction

I received the Tony Beasley award for the best research article produced by a Ph.D. student. This award was delivered by the British Academy of Management in September 2020 for my first project on the CEO-to-worker pay ratio, say on pay votes, and executive compensation.

I received a research grant of EUR 10,000. My thesis has been distinguished by the 15th edition of the joint French Sustainable Investment Forum (SIF – FIR in French) and Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) award on the theme ‘Finance & Sustainability’.
