Biography

Basil is a professor of finance at the Department of Finance and Economics and  the departmental research lead, his background is corporate finance in the fields of capital structure, dividend policy, and cash holdings, as well as corporate governance implications in corporate finance and accounting. Basil joined MMU in November 2021 from Northumbria University where he was professor of Finance and head of subject-finance. Basil worked at different institutions, including Birkbeck University of London, Middlesex University London, and Huddersfield University. 

His research appears in different journals, such as British Journal of Management; Technological Forecasting and Social Change; International Journal of Finance and Economics; Journal of International Accounting, Auditing and Taxation; Tourism Management; Journal of Small Business Management; International Business Review; Business Strategy and the Environment; among others.

Basil also has an interest in curriculum development. At Birkbeck, University of London, Basil developed and redesigned the MSc Investment Management and the MSc Accounting and Financial Management and created different modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the institutions he worked at.

During his career, Basil has taught various finance modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has a special interest in teaching Corporate Finance, International Finance, Financial Modelling and Contemporary Issues in Accounting and Finance, where he uses his research to inform his teaching.

Basil’s research expertise is in the area of corporate finance and corporate governance.
