Entry requirements

This information is provided as a guidance only. Some courses may have specific entry requirements that are listed on the relevant course page.

We advise you to check for any additional subject/course specific requirements before submitting your application.

If you have these qualifications, that doesn’t mean you are guaranteed to get the place you want. We look at each application individually.

Foundation

We typically require students to have achieved their SPM with minimum of six grades at A-C including English and Maths or STPM or UK A-levels and not achieved the grades needed for direct entry to our undergraduate degrees.

Undergraduate

We typically require students to have completed one of the following qualifications:

  • STPM with required grades as per A-levels
  • UEC with six subjects at B6
  • Pre-University or Foundation Year with minimum of 60%

We typically require students to achieve a minimum of between 60% and 70% overall, depending on the qualification taken and the intended programme of study. Some courses may state specific subjects and grade requirements.

You should have the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) at level 6.0, with no scores less than 5.5 in any section. We accept equivalent qualifications.

We will accept the Cambridge English Language Syllabus 1119 or SPM with a score of C or above as an alternative to IELTS.

Undergraduate advanced entry and top-up degrees

You can apply to join a bachelor’s degree course at Manchester Met in its second or third year if you have completed:

  • A Malaysian diploma (Year 2 entry)

or

  • One year (Year 2 entry) or two years (Year 3 entry) of an undergraduate degree.

We typically require students to have achieved a minimum GPA of 2.5 out of 4 in a relevant subject

Postgraduate

We typically require students to have achieved a Bachelor’s degree awarded by a university that is officially recognised in your country with a minimum GPA of between 2.5 – 2.8 out of 4.

You should have the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) at level 6.5 with no scores less than 5.5 in any section. We may accept equivalent qualifications. Some postgraduate programmes have additional language requirements. If you know which programme you want to study, contact us to check its requirements.

If you studied UK qualifications, such as A levels

Our course descriptions explain entry requirements, including UCAS tariff points and minimum International Baccalureat Diploma points.

You can work out your UCAS points by using the calculator on the UCAS website.

With an additional qualification

If you have other qualifications you want us to consider, you can contact us.

  • Visa requirements

You will need a visa to study in the UK unless you:

    • are a British citizen
    • are a citizen of a European Economic Area (EEA) member state or Switzerland
    • have a visa to stay in the UK for another purpose that allows you to study. This might be because you are the husband, wife, partner or child of someone in the UK and have a dependent visa.

Applying for a visa can be confusing. To help, we explain the visa process in plain English.
