Special requirements

Open Day Special Requirements

Find out more about the types of special requirements we can accommodate at our undergraduate Open Days. If your special requirement is not listed below, please email the events team at openday@mmu.ac.uk

  • Accessibility

Our buildings and facilities are accessible. For specific information, refer to our building access guides.

There are lifts in all buildings, except for some accommodation blocks. If you’d like to take an accommodation or campus tour, please make our tour leaders aware and they will be able to plan an accessible route.

If you have an assistance dog, they are welcome in any of our spaces.

  • Parking

We have a number of accessible car parking spaces, which are available on a first come first served basis. These do not need to be booked, just display your blue badge.

It’s worth bearing in mind that as a blue badge holder, you will not receive a ticket, even if you park in any of the University car park spaces, not just the accessible ones. Therefore, if you arrive at the car park we mention below, and there are no spaces in the accessible bay, but there are spaces elsewhere, then you are welcome to park in one of the other spaces instead.

    All Saints parking:

The most accessible car park for the All Saints campus is located off Chester Street on the campus map. The postcode to use is M1 5SH. You can access the Business School from under the Mancunian Way.

    Brooks parking:

If your open day is based over at Brooks, there is a surface-level car park directly outside the Brooks building with reserved areas for those with access needs. All disabled bays around Brooks are on one level on the ground floor. The postcode to use is M15 5RN.

  • Sensory Needs

Our open days can get busy, but there are still plenty of places to decompress.

The Business School is likely to be the busiest building as it hosts a lot of subject talks and stands; however, the Student Hub is somewhere you can relax away from the crowds.

Alternatively, our prayer rooms are open to everyone, those with and without faith, and can be found at Geoffrey Manton building 232, Brooks 3.71, John Dalton E202a, and in the Cavendish building.

    Accommodation tours

Our accommodation tours can get quite busy at peak times, so if you would like to go on an accommodation tour, we recommend visiting the All Saints building towards the beginning of the day. Please note that tours for Birley or Archway accommodation leave from our Brooks campus.

    Timings

Our open day guide is sent out in advance, so you can plan your day. For most courses, subject talks are repeated twice throughout the day, and accommodation and campus tours run frequently throughout the day with no need to pre-book.

    Navigating the campus

We have plenty of signage and student ambassadors ready to help with any directions on the day and a campus map

    Student support

Our student support team will also be available to speak to you as part of our Student Life Fair for any questions you may have.

  • BSL Interpreter

If you require a BSL interpreter, please email the events team at openday@mmu.ac.uk with details of your chosen subjects and the dates and timings you are looking to attend.

Please note that we may be unable to organise an interpreter at short notice.

  • Dietary requirements

Our on-campus cafés cater for a range of dietary requirements.

If you have any queries on the day, please speak to one of our friendly catering team at any of our catering outlets, and they will be happy to help.

Our city centre location also means we are surrounded by numerous eateries if you would like to venture into the city.
