Terms and conditions

These terms and conditions must be read in conjunction with the eligibility criteria set out on the scholarship webpage you wish to apply for. In the event of any discrepancy between these terms and the eligibility criteria, the eligibility criteria shall prevail.

At the time of applying for this scholarship, you must meet the eligibility criteria stated on the scholarship webpage. Unless otherwise stated, no other form of donor-funded scholarship, with the exception of a First-Generation Scholarship, may be applied in conjunction with this scholarship. Current students moving from one course to the course eligibility for scholarship (“Relevant Course”) and students studying on distance learning mode, are not eligible for this scholarship unless otherwise agreed.

In the event of being over-subscribed, we will prioritise applicants with the following circumstances:

  • Care leavers;
  • Irreconcilably estranged from parents;
  • Children of military families;
  • First generation students i.e. from a family where neither your parent(s) or guardian(s) have attended university and obtained an undergraduate degree or equivalent level qualification in the UK or abroad;
  • Those who currently reside in a ‘low participation’ neighbourhood. These are areas where low numbers of young people progress to university (you can check your postcode at the OfS postcode search. Priority will be for those in the lowest POLAR4 young participation quintile).

Terms and conditions

If you are successful in your application, you should be aware of the terms and conditions set out below.

Engagement

To help us convey the impact of supporting students and to thank existing donors, successful applicants will be asked to provide regular updates on their progress on the Relevant Course, when requested, and a short report, which will be shared with the donors, towards the end of each academic year for the duration of the scholarship. The successful applicant will be prompted to complete these reports by our Development and Alumni office and given plenty of notice.

Whilst a student with us, successful applicants will also be asked to attend, participate, and contribute to a range of activities and events that help to market and promote the impact of fundraising. We will also ask the successful applicant at times to participate in activities and events where donors or prospective donors will be present.

Examples of coursework produced during the scholarship may also be used by us for promotional purposes.

Withdrawal of Scholarship

The University (“our”, “we,” or “us”) reserves the right to withdraw your scholarship offer or the scholarship at any point. Situations which may give rise to this include:

  • You fail to accept the scholarship offer by the given deadline;
  • You do anything which, in our reasonable opinion, damages our reputation;
  • If, in our reasonable opinion, you have acted dishonestly in connection with your scholarship application;
  • You are subsequently found to be ineligible for the scholarship or if these terms and conditions are not met in full;
  • You suspend your programme, withdraw from your course or your student status is withdrawn by us. The scholarship requires satisfactory progress on your course. You will not be eligible for the full scholarship if you do not complete the full course;
  • You make a change to your course. This includes transferring course or changing your mode of study. If you intend to make any change to your course, please check with us about what impact this will have on your scholarship;
  • You do not meet all conditions attached to your offer of a place with us;
  • You fail to comply with our terms and conditions applicable to the provision of Educational Services (and the regulations, policies and procedures referred to within) as provided to applicants with their university offer letter and as updated from time to time. View the full terms and conditions.

In the event your scholarship is withdrawn in accordance with the paragraph set out above, your scholarship will be cancelled, and you will be required to repay the scholarship in full.

Please be aware that there is no cash alternative to the scholarship award and awards are not transferable. For further detail, please see the Regulations for the Payment of University Fees.
