12 months full-time
As a student you would be based at the School of Digital Arts (SODA), a recent £35million investment at Manchester Met that aims to train the next generation of digital storytellers.
At the heart of SODA is collaboration and through thematic unit Co-Labs you will have the opportunity to work with other students from across the SODA community, working on industry driven projects.
Upon completion of this degree, subject to achieving a 2.2 award or above, you will be eligible to join one of the SODA postgraduate programmes that will further extend your experience and knowledge of your subject at a higher level of study.
Whether you’ve already made your decision about what you want to study, or you’re just considering your options, there are lots of ways you can meet us and find out more about student life at Manchester Met.
We offer:
Your studies are supported by a department of committed and enthusiastic teachers and researchers, experts in their chosen field.
We often link up with external professionals too, helping to enhance your learning and build valuable connections to the working world.
These typical entry requirements may be subject to change for the 2025/26 academic year. Please check back for further details.
Tuition fees for the 2025/26 academic year are still being finalised for all courses. You can find information on 2024/25 standard undergraduate fees for UK/Channel Islands and EU/Non-EU international students. All fees stated may be subject to change for the 2025/26 academic year.
You will have access to subject specific equipment and resources. Software relevant to your study is available on campus and is regularly updated. In addition to desktop machines, you will also be able to access the university laptop loan service. If you are working off campus, you may wish to purchase your own subject specific equipment, computer and licenced software.
You are strongly advised to purchase a portable hard drive to continually back-up your work (£50-£100) or invest in a cloud storage service (£3-£7 per month). In cases where you need to print your work, additional costs may be incurred, which will be determined by the type of work.
Study trips in the UK are likely to cost between £100-£200 for travel, food and accommodation. The anticipated cost of a European study trip is approximately £400-£500 inclusive of travel, accommodation and subsistence (plus any relevant visa costs). All overnight / residential trips will not be compulsory, and an alternative will be offered.
There are costs associated with producing a portfolio, such as printing and a portfolio case, as well as materials for models and specialist clothing for site visits. You may also wish to invest in your own books, journals or online educational resources.
However, it is possible to work on university machines and to hire cameras, thus alleviating the costs incurred on some of these items. Estimated costs are approximately £700 for a PC laptop or £1,200 for an Apple MacBook pro. We estimate up to £100 for books and journals. The vast majority of relevant software is free to download by student licences. Campus printing starts from 5p per page. The manner in which items are acquired can result insignificant savings, e.g., the re-use and recycling of available materials in the production of models. All materials, printing (2D, 3D), laser cutting, etc. are charged at cost within the institution.
