Studying abroad

Many of our courses offer the chance to study in Asia, Australia, Europe or America, from a few months to a full year, depending on your course.

Whether it’s an exchange, a practical field trip, or joining one of our international partners, studying abroad lets you explore other cultures, gain new perspectives and grow as a person. You’ll add real depth to your CV, and get equipped with the maturity and confidence to take on new challenges.

Working abroad

Gaining global work experience can enhance your career prospects and help develop your skills while experiencing other cultures and perspectives.

National and international companies increasingly look for graduates who:

  • have a global perspective
  • are sensitive to different cultures
  • can work well within diverse teams
  • can demonstrate resilience, flexibility and adaptability

At Manchester Met, you may have the option to study abroad as part of your course, or you may want to look for your own international work placement or internship.

Study and work abroad stories

I would definitely recommend going abroad. The exchange year was an opportunity for me to look into education, while it gave me time to consider what I really wanted to do after I graduate. Now, I’m thinking about taking a year out, then applying for a masters in neuroscience and education.

I was with Intel in Ireland for nearly 11 months as I wanted to work for a multinational company. I found the position on their website, and the business placement team in the University’s careers service helped me through the process. I was really impressed with all the resources and support they offered.
