'All jobs will be green jobs': GM Green Summit 2022

Manchester Met at the GM Green Summit

Manchester Met’s sponsorship of this year’s Greater Manchester Green Summit 2022 focussed on the importance of collaborative working and delivering skills to help Greater Manchester meet its environmental and sustainability targets. 

Held on 17 October at The Lowry, Salford, the summit brought the University together with prominent businesses and stakeholders from across the region to discuss Manchester’s ambition to be net zero before 2038.  

Manchester Met hosted activity sessions for five to 16-year-olds on sustainable fashion, the climate crisis, the future of energy and 3D printing for repairing and recycling. There was also a prominent exhibition spot in the event's Low Carbon Zone. 

Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Sustainability, Professor Liz Price joined GM mayor Andy Burnham on a panel to discuss the University’s collaborative approach in research and education and emphasised the importance of working together to make Manchester greener, fairer and more affordable.  

Prof Price outlined how the University’s Sustainability Strategy will prepare students for future careers when ‘all jobs will be green jobs.’

She said: “With our new Sustainability Strategy we will embed learning about sustainability into every course we deliver. Why? Because every future job must have a sustainability element to it. Whether you are an architect, a business analyst, or a sports scientist you will need to do your job in a sustainable way. 

 “As a higher education institution, our role is to deliver a pipeline of green skills.” 

Manchester Met will launch the next phase of its Sustainability Strategy on 7 November.
