How to enrol

Congratulations on starting your studies at Manchester Met.

Below are the steps to completing your enrolment and starting your studies here. You will need to complete enrolment each year of your study at Manchester Met.

If you’re starting your course in Autumn 2024, please note that you won’t be able to upload your photo and ID, enrol or access the Welcome site until mid-August when information is updated for the new academic year.

Photo upload and ID verification are done when you start here or begin a new course of study, such as moving from an undergraduate degree to a postgraduate programme.

If you have difficulty with your enrolment, contact our Enrolment Helpline at 0161 247 5959. Open weekdays, 9.00am-4.00pm.

  • 1) Upload your Photo and ID verification

Start by uploading two photos for your Manchester Metropolitan student record. One should be a clear passport-style photo of yourself, the second a photo of your passport, driving licence or similar government-issued photo ID.

This is a required part of your enrolment and must be completed even if you have shown passport and photo elsewhere during the application process.

Log in using your eight-digit student ID number found on your confirmation letter. For your initial password, use your date of birth in the case-sensitive format ddMmmyy (eg: 01Jan02).

  • 2) Complete your Right to Study check

Our Visa Compliance team is required to confirm your whereabouts when you arrive in the UK and to check your immigration documents before you can enrol online. This is known as a right to study check. You will not be able to enrol until several days after this is completed after arriving in the United Kingdom.

During this check, the Visa Compliance team will assess your immigration status to confirm you are eligible to start your academic journey. If UKVI has told us they have used your CAS in a visa application, you will receive an email about how to complete a Right to Study check. Documents you need to submit will include:

    • Passport
    • Travel Visa; or
    • Biometric Residence permit; or
    • Proof you submitted a visa application to apply for entry or leave to remain in the UK

Find useful information on what we expect from you and what you can expect from our support services whilst you are enrolled at Manchester Met here.

If you have not received your visa yet, you should still complete any right to study form sent to you so we can understand how long it will take you to arrive.

You can complete a right to study check up to and including the latest date you can arrive for your course, however you cannot enrol fully for your course until you have arrived in the UK and provided a copy of your immigration permission.

  • 3) Complete your online enrolment

Enrol online using your student ID and password to log in. Please note it may take 3-4 days after submitting your Right to Study check materials to become eligible to enrol.

You should complete online enrolment prior to starting your course and you’ll need to enrol each year you study with us.

Online enrolment verifies we have you listed on the correct course. It asks you to confirm contact information and payment arrangements. There are also questions that we have to ask for statistical and reporting purposes.

  • 4) Visit your Welcome Page and find events

Visit your Welcome page for a personalised induction from your faculty, information about your course and any reading or projects to complete before starting. You’ll also find reading list links and a timetable once it is published. Some Welcome pages may not be immediately visible, so try back in a few days if you experience difficulty.

Students on some professional, research and modular courses may be contacted directly via email from their faculty with this information.

Visit the Welcome Events calendar for info on social and learning events to help you find your way.

  • 5) Collect your student ID card

ID cards are available from the Student Hub during normal business hours.

Please allow three business days after completing online enrolment (including upload of photo and ID) before collecting your ID card.

If you are a distance learner, you may not need an ID card, but see the instructions if you would like to request one.

Once you have your Manchester Met student ID card you should carry it with you whenever you are on campus. A valid student ID card is required for access the Library and other facilities. Ensure you make a note of your student ID number until you have your card.

  • 6) Attend your first session

It is essential that you attend all the scheduled course activities from the first day of term to ensure that you get the best start to your university studies.
