The University charges tuition fees annually based on the programme of study, fee status, and attendance mode. Students must pay fees each year throughout their course.

  • For new students, fee information for each course can be found via the online prospectus.
  • For continuing students, fees are available by emailing the Student Billings team or calling them on +44 (0)161 247 2937.
  • Fee status: Home, Channel Islands or Overseas

Undergraduate tuition fees for Home (UK) and Channel Island students are set at different levels to tuition fees for Overseas (international) students. Postgraduate tuition fees for Home (UK) students are set at different levels to tuition fees for Overseas (international) and Channel Island students.

Your fee status is determined after you apply for a course, based on citizenship, residence, and immigration status. For any inquiries regarding your fee status or assessment, please reach out to the Fee Assessment Team.

  • Fees for Students on Placement

If you are enrolled on a 4-year sandwich degree course, you will spend your third year on an industrial work placement and will be charged the Manchester Met placement tuition fee. For 2023/24, the placement fee will be £1,850.

In 2023/24 Manchester Met is offering a University Employability Fee Waiver to up to 250 Home (UK) students on their work placement year. This means that if you are eligible for this award, your placement tuition fee will be paid by Manchester Met. For more information, download the full eligibility criteria and terms and conditions.

If you require travel insurance during your placement, Manchester Met provides worldwide travel insurance for students travelling with their programme of study.

Note: When applying for Student Finance, remember to indicate that you will be on a work placement rather than exchange.

  • Fees for Students on Exchange/Study Abroad

If you are a Manchester Met student studying abroad for a full year through Erasmus, Turing exchange, or Study Abroad you will not pay fees to your host institution. Any tuition fees will be payable to Manchester Met. The exact amount of fees may vary depending on your year of study, student fee status, and the duration of your exchange.

    • Tuition fees for undergraduate years abroad in 2023/24 are £1,385 as long as you are abroad for the whole year.  If you are abroad for only part of the year and spending the rest of the year at Manchester Met then you will pay full fees.
    • If you are a postgraduate student please contact the Student Billings Team for your tuition fee information.

If you require travel insurance during your exchange, Manchester Met provides worldwide travel insurance for students travelling with their programme of study.

Note: When applying for Student Finance, remember to indicate that you will be on exchange rather than work placement.

  • Writing up, Extension and Resubmission Fees (Research Students)

Check the Postgraduate Research Regulations for the Payment of University Fees for full details on writing-up, extension, and resubmission fees.

    • If you don’t submit your thesis by your agreed submission date, you’ll be charged writing-up fees.

    • If you’re unable to submit your thesis by the end of the writing-up period, you’ll need to apply for an extension and will be liable to pay the corresponding fees.

    • If your thesis has been referred for further work prior to your viva voce (oral assessment/discussion), or you are required to resubmit your thesis after the original submission, you may be charged resubmission tuition and associated project cost fees (if applicable) during any resubmission period.

If you receive an invoice for writing-up, extension or resubmission fees, you can either pay your fees in full during online enrolment or you can contact pay@mmu.ac.uk to arrange an instalment plan.

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If you already have, or intend to apply for a postgraduate loan, note that RPL claims may affect your eligibility for the loan, dependant on your type of course and domicile (home country). Please email PGL-Enquiries@mmu.ac.uk before applying for any RPL credits to avoid loan rejection.

Non-Manchester Met credit transfers for RPL claims are subject to a reduced tuition fee based on the number of credits claimed. The RPL fee is non-refundable and reviewed annually. The fee is applied to cover the cost of a credit approval/assessment, and assigning a Manchester Met value to it.

For Undergraduate and Postgraduate Taught students, the fees will be charged as follows:

    • £12 per credit - Home/EU/Channel Island students

    • £15 per credit - Overseas students

    • No fee will be charged for Manchester Met RPL credits or Advanced credits due to Articulation agreements.

Please see our Recognition of Prior Learning Guidance for the complete RPL policy, including definitions and instructions on how to claim RPL credits.

Note: Commercial programs with separate arrangements have exceptions to the above, which continue throughout the agreement.
