My profile

Biography

I joined MMUBS and academia in 2008 with a fellowship from the Foundation of Management Education; My previous career was spent in industry where I managed and ran significant businesses and operations within the domestic appliance and PC assembly industries. Over the last 3 years, I have mainly concentrated on developing and leading the development of online teaching resources and capabilities within the business school’s Global Online Teaching Programme.

I have held director level positions in Customer Service, Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing, Product and Business Development within Philips, Russell Hobbs and Time Computers. Notable product development successes included key mechanical components for the very first CD player (about 25 years ago) followed later by the Alessi kettle, the innovative kettle scale filters and flat heating elements for Philips and Russell Hobbs. I also designed and manufactured the last Hostess trollies sold by Philips which some people may still remember before the advent of microwaves!!

Within the MMU I have developed a teaching portfolio in areas that have always interested me – namely performance management (management accounting),corporate finance and security derivatives. I completed my PhD at the University of Manchester in Finance – a theoretical study of mortgage mitigation options.

Teaching

  • Receives excellent feedback on his teaching from all levels – undergraduate, postgraduate and professional. Nominated to the best teaching category for the 2013 MMU Student Union teaching awards. Consistently good feedback in Global MMU online teaching
  • Proficient in developing programmes and units (finance, research design, logistics)  for online teaching delivery. Worked closely with educational developers such as Pearson.
  • Taught PWC accounting professionals ACCA P4 in Eastern Europe and also delivered in Singapore, University of Manchester (MBA) and Shanghai University (MBA).

  • Research interests are in the area of Real Estate and Strategic Negotiation.
  • Research papers delivered in this area to conferences in Shanghai, London, Rotterdam, Tokyo and Washington over the last 15 years
