Biography

I joined MMU in 2021 as a Reader in People and Performance. My research interests focus on employment, gender inequalities and job quality. I am particularly interested in using qualitative methodologies to illuminate the nature of working experiences. My current research interests include apprenticeship training as a lever to improve job quality and skills, recruitment and retention in the social care sector and gender equality in Professional Services Firms.

Teaching

I teach on human resource management at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. I teach on the Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship programme, the MSc in Human Resource Management and the Executive MBA programme. I supervise a number students on MBA projects working in the NHS, the pharmaceutical sector and management consultancy.

I have extensive experience of PhD supervision and have supervised students researching topics including; skills and job quality in the retail sector, gender equality and flexible working in Professional Services Firms, precarious work in Greater Manchester, age discrimination experienced by mature students and emotional labour in occupational therapy and teaching occupations.
