Privacy notice for the Engaged Scholarship Network

This Privacy Notice explains who we are, how and why we collect and use personal information about you, what personal data is collected and held about you for the Engaged Scholarship & GELL networks, our purposes and lawful bases for processing, who we share your personal data with, relevant retention periods, and how you can exercise your privacy rights. Who we are

Throughout this notice, “University”, “we”, “our” and “us” refer to the Manchester Metropolitan University, an exempt charity under Schedule 2 to the Charities Act 1993 (amended by the Charities Act 2011). The University is the Data Controller in respect of the personal data you provide as part of [activity]. 

The University is registered as a Data Controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). We manage personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the University’s Data Protection Policy.

Your information will enable us to:

Use of personal data

We intend to develop a network of people who have attended our training programmes and/or are interested in the wider aims and objectives of the GELL project.

The data will be used to contact people in the Network about GELL work. For example, this will include invitations to forthcoming events (e.g., as part of the bid we are committed to running a roadshow in Summer 2022 to disseminate research results) and links to GELL evaluation results and relevant documents and reports. Data will also be used for impact tracking.

Lawful basis

The UK GDPR Article 6 (1) f – the processing is necessary for the purposes of legitimate interests.

If you contact us, we may also keep a record of that correspondence.

The recipients or categories of recipients of the personal data

Unless there are exceptional circumstances in the public interest, such as disclosures to emergency services, we do not disclose your personal information to any third parties.

Data retention

Your personal data will only be retained for as long as it is necessary in accordance with the University’s Retention and Disposal Schedule.

Specifically, we will review the continued retention of your personal data on the 1 October 2025.

Your rights in respect of the processing

Right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority

You have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) as the supervisory authority in respect of the processing of your personal data.
