MA International Relations and Global Communications
"The connections I made at Manchester Met were very impactful and helped me gain more knowledge and experience in my field of study."
I’ve always been fascinated with how various types of societies and institutions interact with each other on a large and small scale. Having travelled a lot myself, I was drawn to this field of study in which we aim to better understand how we can cooperate on an international level. For example, the course on how the European Union functions was very enlightening, specifically because the class had students - UK nationals, Euopeans, and non-Europeans – interact with eachother on this topic.
I developed a better understanding of how multicultural societies and institutions function (thanks to my core modules). Doing my MA at Manchester Met also helped me gain much more confidence in voicing my own opinions and views because of the comfortable and open-minded environment we were in.
I really enjoyed the module on “Language, Culture and Communication” as well as the “EU in turmoil” because both of these classes gave the opportunity for in-class debates between students, making it a more stimulating and enriching experience.
Manchester Met is a very modern, open-minded and multi-cultural University; aspects that I really value in academic life. More importantly, I found that the staff and professors were very proactive, helpful and interested in each of their students which made the experience even more enjoyable.
Networking is a big plus: the earlier you start meeting with people/entrepreneurs in your similar field, the easier it will be for you to have job ideas and opportunities. It also helps to assert yourself and gain more knowledge on your field of work. I’d also say start looking for a job early (even simply to get an idea of the type of function you’d like) as it can be a long process.
The connections I made at Manchester Met, either with professors or my diverse group of classmates, were very impactful and helped me gain more knowledge and experience in my field of study.
