Introduction

Crisis Support provides one-off, short-term financial help if you find you’re unable to afford essentials such as food, hygiene products, travel to lectures or essential medication. It’s not a guaranteed source of income and cannot help with larger, ongoing costs such as rent, outstanding bills and debt. If you need help in these areas, you can apply for Day to Day Support

How it works

How to apply

Call the Student Financial Support Helpline on 0161 247 1045 to discuss your circumstances. If you qualify for Crisis Support, they will send you a link to complete a short online application form.

All students are eligible to apply for Crisis Support, but the fund is subject to availability. Depending on your circumstances, you may be offered a Bridging Loan instead of Crisis Support. We will discuss this with you when you call to apply.

You must be able to show that you have very little money left in your bank account and are struggling to afford essentials. Follow the guidance in the application FAQs to avoid any delays to your application.

We aim to process applications within five days.

How much will I get?

If your application is successful, you will receive a non-repayable contribution towards your essential costs.

Payments depend on several factors.

The amounts listed are the maximum payments so you may receive less:

  • Student with no children: £240
  • Student with 1 child: £336
  • Student with 2 or more children: £432

In exceptional circumstances, we can offer higher payments to help with specific emergencies or unexpected events.

Call the Student Financial Support helpline on 0161 247 1045 if you need help with any financial crisis.
