Introduction

Our interest-free Bridging Loans can provide a short-term solution if your maintenance loan is delayed for any reason, or if you run into a temporary cash-flow problem and need financial support to help until your next maintenance loan instalment.

Bridging Loans can help with essentials such as food, hygiene products, travel to lectures or essential medication.

If you receive a Bridging Loan, you will need to pay it back in full when you receive your next maintenance loan instalment.

How it works

How to apply

Call the Student Financial Support Helpline on 0161 247 1045 and they will send you a link to complete a short online application form.

Bridging Loans are offered to students who receive a maintenance loan from Student Finance, or other government living cost support. We can only offer a Bridging Loan if we can agree a suitable repayment date within the same academic year.

In some cases, you must be able to show that you have very little money left in your bank account and are struggling to afford essentials. Follow the guidance in the application application FAQs to avoid any delays to your application.

We aim to process applications within five days.

How much will I get?

Payments depend on several factors. The amounts listed are the maximum payments so you may receive less:

  • Student with no children: £240
  • Student with one child: £336
  • Student with two or more children: £432

How do I repay MY Bridging loan?

Before we approve your Bridging Loan, we will agree a suitable repayment date.

We will also help you set up a repayment plan on our payments system, Flywire, so that the funds are taken from your nominated account on the agreed date.
