Funding Guidance

About the fund

The Sustainability Fund seeks to provide you with funding to deliver sustainability projects that support our strategic sustainability goals to 2026 and that support our position as the number one sustainable university in the UK.

Sustainability Funded projects can be delivered through several means and seek to further embed sustainable development in education and research, our campus, and practices, or working with our partners to bring tangible environmental and social benefits, locally, nationally, and internationally.

Ideally, the activities that you deliver should raise awareness, enhance skills and knowledge of sustainable development and topical issues, or seek to integrate sustainability in all that we do here at Manchester Met. Where relevant, activities could take place on-campus, or be delivered remotely. It provides our communities with resources to progress sustainability at the university and beyond, encouraging individuals and groups to act on sustainability - amplifying our impacts, and our contributions to the world’s sustainability agenda.

Case studies

Dye Garden

The textile industry is reported to be one of the largest polluters of our waters; chemical dye pollution can cause environmental impacts to our streams, rivers, and oceans.

Dyeing and finishing are responsible for 3% of global CO2 emissions, by 2050 this is predicted to increase to over 10%, more than the C02 caused by shipping and aviation combined. 20% of global water pollution.

The Technical Services team have built planter frames using recycled tires & used the Sustainability Fund to provide planting supplies for several varieties of natural dye species.

Biobin Pilot

Biobins have been funded as part of a pilot to divert non-sharp plastic waste across three laboratories across All Saints Campus at Man Met.
