1. Chester 

One of the UK’s most quaint and historic cities complete with city walls and the largest Roman Amphitheatre in Britain. Its rows and Tudor-style buildings house a mix of independent and recognised shops and there’s a fantastic range of bars and restaurants. You can also enjoy a day at Chester Races or visit Chester Zoo.  
 
Must do: Take a pedal boat for a ride along the River Dee

2. Edale 

Gateway to the Pennine Way, Edale is the perfect retreat for nature-lovers and is a walker’s paradise. You can choose from a selection of guided walks or if you’re confident at map reading take yourself off and enjoy the scenery. 
 
Must do: Head to Peveril Castle for its breathtaking views

3. York 

The historic city of York is a must see if you’ve not already been. Take a tour of the magnificent York Minster and explore the famous Shambles – one of the best-preserved medieval shopping streets in Europe! 4. Liverpool 

When it comes to football there’s rivalry between Manchester and Liverpool, but no-one can deny it’s a fabulous and vibrant city. There’s absolutely loads to do – it has more museums and galleries than any city outside of London, take a stroll to the impressive Pier Head and Albert Dock or soak up the atmosphere in one of the incredible beer gardens and terraces around the city.  
 
Must do: Go to Bold Street and enjoy the variety of shops, bars and restaurants

5. Leeds 

If shopping and nightlife are on your list of things to do on your trip, then Leeds is the place for you. There’s a host of big brand shops and quirky independent stores to spend the day wandering around and by night there’s an array of cocktail bars and bustling pubs. 
 
Must do: Visit the Corn Exchange – a Grade I-listed building packed with boutique shops selling handmade and vintage goods

6. Blackpool 

If you and your friends are looking for a fun-filled and action-packed day out, then look no further. This famous seaside resort has been attracting visitors for decades as it has something to offer everyone from rollercoasters and amusement arcades to walks along the pier and donkey rides on the beach. Also, from 2 September the promenade is a glow with the famous Blackpool Illuminations.
