MCR MET FOOD is the official Manchester Metropolitan University food and drink loyalty app. The app was designed to help students and staff make their money go further when spending in our outlets on campus.

Build up loyalty reward points by scanning your app with every purchase you make and once you hit 200 points, you’ll receive £2 credit in your account. The app also has a virtual hot drink loyalty card so once you’ve purchased 10 hot drinks, you’ll get the 11th completely free!

Payment through the app could not be easier, simply link your MET card and scan your QR code to pay or show your QR code and use your normal debit/credit card to pay at the till.

  • What is the MCR MET FOOD app?

    A downloadable app that allows you to build loyalty points based on your purchases at Manchester Metropolitan University food and drink outlets. You also have access to a virtual coffee stamp card, where you can collect stamps on every hot drink purchase. You can also link your MET card to a virtual wallet and pay directly through the app. Alternatively, you can pay with your credit or debit card at the till.

  • How does the app work?

    As you use the app you will earn points and coffee loyalty stamps based on your purchases. The points will then build up in the loyalty section of the app until you have reached the 200 point threshold, which equates to a £2 money off voucher for to you to use on your next purchase. This £2 voucher will automatically be added to the voucher section of the app and you will also be notified by email. If you have linked your MET card to your virtual wallet, you can pay directly through the app. Alternatively, you can show your QR code on every purchase and pay with your chosen card at the till.

  • How do I join?

    Download the MCR MET FOOD app from the App Store or Google Play. Once downloaded, sign up with your preferred email address and follow the steps to create an account.

  • How do I use the app in the food and drink outlets?

    You can link your MET card and pay directly through the app at the till by showing the MET Card QR code (this will appear once you’ve linked your MET Card). Alternatively, you can show your app QR code (found in the top right-hand corner of the app) and pay using your preferred card.

  • Where can I use the loyalty app around campus?

    In most food and drink outlets which have a till point. See our campus food & drink map in the ‘Where to Eat’ section of our website for locations. (Not available for use in Costa, vending machines, Student Union, or the Salutation Pub).

  • Can I add a card to the app? (including my Met Card)?

    You can only add your MET card to the app. To pay with your debit/credit card simply scan your QR code on the app and pay at the till with your card as normal. 

  • How do I update my account information?

    For any changes, please email the admin team at mmufood@mmu.ac.uk.

  • How do I reset my password?

    Go to the forgotten password link which appears when logging into your account.

  • How do I receive updates and offers?

    You will need ensure you have enabled push notifications from the app. Promotions and offers will appear within the app. You may also be sent them to your registered email account.

  • I'm experiencing issues with the app, who should I contact?

    In the first instance, contact an outlet manager or email mmufood@mmu.ac.uk.

  • How are my points calculated?

    You will receive 5 points for every £1 spent on any transaction. Once you hit 200 points on your account, you will receive a cashback reward voucher which equates to £2. This will automatically be added to the rewards section of your account and automatically used on your next purchase.

  • What happens to my points after I've received and redeemed my £2 reward voucher?

    Once you have redeemed your reward voucher your points will reset to zero. For any remaining points, these will be added back to your purse, allowing you to rebuild your points for your next reward voucher.

  • Can I build up my reward vouchers and use them towards a more substantial purchase?

    Once you have reached 200 points on your account, you will automatically receive a reward voucher in your account that will be used when you make your next purchase. You won’t be able to build up reward vouchers within the app. The voucher can not be exchanged for cash.

  • When I purchase a hot drink, do I receive both points on my account and a coffee card stamp?

    Yes. When you purchase any hot drink you will receive 5 points for every £1 spent PLUS a virtual stamp on your hot drink stamp card.

  • Is there anything I can't receive points on?

    No. You will receive 5 points for every £1 spent on any purchase made in any of our food and drink catering outlets on campus. Please visit our ‘Where to Eat’ section on our website or download our food and drink campus map to see exact locations.

  • What are the points worth?

    Points have no monetary value but can be exchanged for goods.

  • Does anything happen to inactive accounts?

    If the account has been inactive for 18 months we will assume it is no longer in use and delete the account. You may delete the app at any time, but this will mean you no longer benefit from loyalty points or special offers. If you wish to delete your account please contact mmufood@mmu.ac.uk.

  • Terms and conditions

    MCR MET FOOD is a smartphone app-based system that enables the registered user to collect and spend points in any food and drink outlet on campus. Promotions and special offers will be made available to the registered loyalty and reward app members only throughout the year.

    The below Terms and Conditions are subject to change from time to time and at the sole discretion of the University.

    • The user can collect points in any food and drink outlet on campus.
    • The loyalty and rewards app must be presented by the registered ID holder for all transactions.
    • Points are not transferable and can only be used by the registered ID holder.
    • The user must provide a valid email address.
    • Any allowance remaining at the end of the academic year will always roll over to the next academic year.
    • The loyalty and rewards app is available all year round but offers, and vouchers do have an expiry date and are subject to change
    • The reward app points cannot be exchanged for cash and hold no monetary value.
    • Points cannot be earned when paying for products with a department charge code or any other payment method.
    • Once you have collected 200 points these are converted to a voucher which is used against your next purchase.
    • For every one-pound sterling spent you will be awarded 5 points.
    • Mcr Met Food is a smartphone app-based system that enables the registered user to collect and spend points in any food & drink outlet on campus.
    • Promotions and special offers will be made available to the registered loyalty and reward app members only throughout the year.
    • The below Terms and Conditions are subject to change from time to time and at the sole discretion of the University.
    • The University accepts no liability if it is unable to accept identification of the QR code from the loyalty and rewards app for the redemption or earning of points due to technical difficulties.
    • Withdrawal or expulsion from the University may result in the closure of your account. In these circumstances and for the avoidance of doubt you will not be entitled to a part or whole refund of your purse amount.
    • Account holders can close accounts at any time but for the avoidance of doubt you will not be entitled to a part or whole refund or your entire purse amount.
    • To close an account contact mmufood@mmu.ac.uk.The University reserves the right to close accounts after over 18 months of inactivity. In these circumstances, any unredeemed or unclaimed loyalty points, rewards, bonuses, discounts, offers, and vouchers will be void.
    • The University reserves the right to notify users regarding upcoming offers, deals, or vouchers via the app directly or via other contact methods unless you opt out.
    • The University will not be responsible for any losses incurred on stolen or hacked accounts. It is the responsibility of the users to notify the University if they think their account has been hacked or stolen via the designated contact procedure.

    Who we are

    Throughout this notice, “University”, “we”, “our” and “us” refer to the Manchester Metropolitan University, an exempt charity under Schedule 2 to the Charities Act 1993 (amended by the Charities Act 2011). The University is the Controller in respect of the personal data you provide and we gather as part of your use of the Mcr Met Food app.

    The University is registered as a Controller with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). We manage personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the University’s Data Protection Policy.

    Data collected

    The personal data collected when you register for and use the app include:

    • Your name
    • Your email address
    • Record of your purchases
    • Whether you are a Students, Staff member or a Visitor

    Purposes of processes

    This personal information will enable us:

    • To record your purchases for the purposes of administering a loyalty points system based on the volume of purchases.
    • To conduct analytics activities in order to help drive relevant offers personalised to your individual purchase history.
    • To conduct promotional and marketing activities, such as communicating personalised offers.
    • Your email address is your unique identifier to assign loyalty points to your user account and will be used to notify you of special offers and offers available in Mcr Met Food outlets.

    Recipients

    The University does not sell or disclose your personal data to any third parties unless legally obliged to do so or there are exceptional circumstances. We do use the services of Kappture for the provision of the tills and as a data processor to assist us to deliver the Mcr Met Food app services and maintain the app. Inevitably in providing these services they will have access to some personal data. They are bound by data protection legislation and the terms of a contract to only use personal data for the specific purposes instructed.

    Lawful basis for processing

    We rely upon the article 6(1)f - legitimate interests lawful to process your personal data in the ways described above. We believe we process your information in ways which you would reasonably expect and which involve minimal privacy impact to you.

    Push notifications

    You are able to opt out of receiving our push notifications at any point, this can be amended within the app settings.

    Retention

    You may remove this app at any time from your mobile device. By removing the app you will no longer receive any information on offers or be able to redeem vouchers. Removing the app does not delete your account or personal data collected. You are able to request the deletion of your account by sending a request via email to: mmufood@mmu.ac.ukPeriod of inactivity – If the account is not used for a period of 18 months we will assume it is no longer in use and delete the account.
