University is a huge transition and most students experience homesickness at some point, it’s part of trying to settle somewhere new. Whether you’ve come to Manchester from halfway across the world or down the road, homesickness can still be an issue. Talk to your friends, chances are that they’ve felt the same at some point.

Explore and get to know your new city, it’s an incredibly vibrant and varied place with an impressive history. Yes the rumours are true, it rains a lot in Manchester but despite that it’s a pretty special place. Get out and see for yourself.

If you need some inspiration or want to meet some new people, The Students’ Union are all about helping students get together and build relationships around shared interests and characteristics. Have a look at the variety of societies and groups on offer, or the different volunteering opportunities in and around Manchester.

The International Society offers free membership to all students, regardless of their nationality. Their packed social calendar includes games nights, themed cultural evenings, language classes and trips to places of interest around the UK.

The Chaplaincy makes up an important part of the support to students available at Manchester Met, offering spiritual help, advice, information on places of worship and support.
