Follow our step-by-step guide to getting disability support

  • Step 1: Open a support request

If you would like to receive disability support you will first need to disclose your disability to the University using the Digital Student Hub.

When you open a new support request you will be prompted to provide us with information about your disability, health condition or Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD). Once submitted, this will send your details to the Disability Service.

  • Step 2: Provide medical evidence

You will then receive an email asking you to provide additional information via the Digital Student Hub.

You will be asked to upload medical evidence of your condition or, if you have a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), a copy of your Educational Psychologist’s assessment report.

This evidence will be required before the Disability Service can put support in place for you. Please read our guidance on the type of information required.

If you think you may have a Specific Learning Difficulty, such as dyslexia or dyspraxia, but do not have evidence and have not been formally assessed, you can contact us for advice about an Educational Psychologist assessment.

  • Step 3: Consent to share

Next you will be asked to provide your consent to use your information to ensure you have the correct support. We won’t tell anybody outside of the University about you contacting or disclosing to us, unless you give us permission to do so. If you do want support, we may have to tell some people to be able to put it in place, but only with your consent.

If you are having trouble completing your disability support request through the Digital Student Hub, you can complete this Disclosure and Consent Form.

Please return this form, along with any medical evidence or Educational Psychologist report, to the Disability Service by email.

  • Step 4: Meet with a Disability Adviser

Once you have returned your completed disclosure form and provided the required information and medical medical evidence confirming your disability, we’ll contact you to arrange a Personal Learning Plan appointment. At this appointment, you will discuss your support needs with a Disability Adviser and they will write your Personal Learning Plan.

  • Step 5: Check your eligibility for funded support

You may be eligible for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs) which are provided by the Government, not the University, to help with costs such as a note-taker, items of specialist equipment or travel costs. Applying for DSAs and arranging support can take several months. You can apply for DSAs before you start your course but don’t panic if you haven’t, our Disability Advisers can help you to apply.
